Actiontec Electronics today announced a new generation of VoSKY Exchange, its Skype Certified family of PBX-to-Skype gateways.

VoSKY Exchange is a rack-mountable, PBX voice gateway that adds up to eight outgoing Skype lines to an office PBX without changes to existing PBX or phone equipment.

HomePlug "Turbo" technology prominently touts that it delivers data at "up to 85 Mbps" rates. But Tim Higgins found that the usual games that manufacturers play with throughput claims has been taken to new lows with these products.



Actiontec's VoSKY Chatterbox is supposed to let you conduct Skype chats without being tethered to your computer via a headset. But Tim Higgins found that he'd rather wait for version 2 of this little speakerphone.



There are many consumer-priced networked cameras on the market today and even 802.11g wireless capability is pretty much a ho-hum feature. Humphrey Cheung took a look at Actiontec's offering, but found most of its differentiation to be in its negatives.



If you can use your regular phones with VoIP services such as Vonage, why not also with Skype? Actiontec's IPWS lets you do just that.
