NETGEAR today announced four new wireless and wired network infrastructure products, new NAS line and a VoIP partnership.

The NETGEAR ProSafe Smart Wireless Switch (WFS709TP) is a wireless controller supporting up to 16 wireless access points and 256 users per switch. Roaming is supported across multiple access points without the need to re-associate and re-authenticate with access points as they move from location to location.

The WFS709TP integrates RF management and planning capabilities including automatic self-configuration of transmit power level, channel, load balancing and interference avoidance. The switch also incorporates enterprise-class security features including RADIUS and AAA Server support.

Atheros today announced that it is sampling a low-cost six port 10/100 Ethernet switch chip to key customers.

The company said the AR8216 will allow it to provide networking customers with "all of the major silicon required for complete wire-to-wireless router solutions". Atheros chose to produce a 10/100 switch instead of a gigabit Ethernet version because it believes that is where the volume will be in the near term.

NETGEAR today announced the ProSafe 24 Port 10/100 Smart Switch with Four Gigabit Ports and 24 PoE Ports (FS728TP).

The new switch features 24 10/100 ports which each support 802.3af PoE with a total power budget of 195 watts. There are also two combination gigabit copper/SFP slots for optional fiber connectivity and two 10/100/1000 gigabit Ethernet ports. Management methods include a web-based admin interface, NETGEAR's ProSafe Network Management Software or other SNMP-based (SNMP v1, v2 and v3) management software.

Other features include Access Control List (ACL) filtering, 802.1x port authentication, enhanced QoS for prioritization of voice traffic, rate limiting, and IGMP snooping.

The FS728TP is available now at $630 suggested list.

Linksys today announced six new "fully managed" Layer-2 switches and its first line of RAID capable network attached storage solutions with both lines aimed at small business users.

The new switches include two stackable 24 10/100 + 4 gigabit port, two stackable 24 10/100/1000 + 4 SFP port and standalone 24 10/100 + 4 gigabit and 48 10/100 + 4 gigabit models. Four out of the six products include PoE ports and all feature a web management interface as well as SNMP, RMON and Telnet management options.

The new NASes represent the company's first foray into RAID networked storage. Both of the two models support up to four drives and feature redundant power supplies. They come either without drives or configured with 1 TB of RAID 5 storage and support RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 1 + Spare, RAID 5, RAID 5 + Spare, RAID 10, and JBOD configurations.

Netgear today announced the expansion of its stackable "Smart Switch" line with the launch of the ProSafe 24- and 48-Port Gigabit Stackable Smart Switches (GS724TS and GS748TS).

The ProSafe Gigabit Stackable Smart Switches have 24 or 48 10/100/1000 ports and four shared SFP Gigabit Ethernet fiber ports, plus two dedicated stacking ports. The stacking ports use off-the-shelf HDMI cables and provide a 20 Gbps, dual-ring, stacking bus that enables users to stack up to six switches, or 288 10/100/1000 ports and manage them all under a single IP address.
