ZyXEL today announced its expanded Unified Security Gateway (USG) series that combines a deep packet stateful inspection firewall, anti-Virus, IDP, content filtering, anti-spam and VPN (IPSec/SSL/L2TP).
Zyxel's dual-drive NAS has the features and performance to take on D-Link's popular product.
We find out whether an 802.11g AP connected via a HomePlug AV powerline network outperforms draft 802.11n.
The Zyxel NBG318S packs an 802.11b/g wireless router, three port 10/100 switch and HomePlug AV support into a compact package.

Digitimes today reported that Zyxel Communications has filed a complaint against D-Link and Waveplus Technology for switch-related patent infringements. Chip supplier Waveplus is being blamed as the cause of the dispute.
The dispute is over a < $20 D-Link switch that is sold only in Russia and that Zyxel claims is "very similar" to a Zyxel design.
Zyxel said it has not yet decided the amount of monetary damages it will claim and D-Link said that it is "completely protected from any patent controversy" and that no operations should be affected by the dispute.

ZyXEL today announced the DMA1100P , which it says is the first
digital media adapter with built-in HomePlug AV Powerline technology.
The adapter supports 1080i high definition (HD) streaming, has an HDMI port
and automatically discovers UPnP AV and DLNA servers. A Windows-based DLNA server
is also included with the appliance.
The DMA1100P will be available next month at an MSRP of $270 .
Zyxel packed a lot of features into its four-drive BYOD RAID NAS. Too bad that jumbo frame support wasn't one of them.
ZyXEL today announced what it claims is the first all-in-one ADSL2+ gateway with built-in HomePlug AV.
The P-660HWP series features a built-in HomePlug AV (HPAV) adapter, providing up to 200 Mbps raw LAN data rate for triple-play services. It supports ADSL2+ speeds up to 24 Mbps as well as Reach-Extended ADSL (RE ADSL) for higher speed at longer distances.
Zyxel has announced a new smart switch product family that includes
two fast Ethernet switches for small and medium sized businesses (SMBs).
The ES-1528 offers 28 10/100 ports with features including web administration,
802.1Q VLAN and 802.1p traffic priority support and static port aggregation. Other
features include smart ACL (Access Control List), Auto Denial of Service (DoS)
Attack Prevention and Auto VoIP QoS optimization.
The ES-1552 offers the same features and functionality of the ES-1528,
but has 52 ports.
The ES-1528 is currently available at an MSRP of $289.99. The ES-1552
will start shipping in July 2007. Pricing was not announced.
Zyxel has announced its WLAN Controller System , which it bills
as the industrys first "ultra-thin" access point.
The managed WLAN solution includes the NXC-8160 controller and NWA-8500
AP and features what Zyxel calls channel blanket technology. Zyxel
said the technology guarantees throughput, delivers zero delay roaming, eliminates
site survey and channel planning and reduces total cost of ownership (TCO) by
more than 40 percent.
The system offloads all functions of the AP to a centralized controller and
puts all APs on the same channel, using the same BSSID. Zyxel's "channel
blanket" technology prevents the multiple APs on the same channel from interfering
with each other. This technique provides zero delay roaming, because roaming no
longer requires switching between multiple channels or having to reconnect to
each access point. Each AP has two radios, enabling the user to dedicate one channel
for voice and one for data.
HomePlug AV has been a long time coming. Tim Higgins finds that Zyxel's PLA-400 almost makes it worth the wait.
ZyXEL today added an SSL gateway and mobile broadband router to its ZyWALL security product line.
The ZyWALL SSL-10 is an integrated SSL-VPN and Firewall appliance supporting 10 sessions in its base configuration and upgradeable to 25 sessions. Users have access to shared network resources through a single web page with user rights defined by login ID.
The product provides a customizable web portal that users can access through a standard Web browser to easily and securely access e-mail, applications, web servers and other resources on the remote network.
ZyXEL has announced single and dual-drive BYOD networked storage devices
to kick off its NAS product line.
With miles left to walk and lots to see, there's not a lot of time to write. So here are some photos of new NASes we've seen at CES.
