Broadcom adds single-chip 11g router Print E-mail

November 07, 2006

Broadcom today announced a new single-chip Wi-Fi router combining an 802.11g wireless LAN baseband / MAC, 2.4 GHz radio, 10/100 Ethernet switch and MIPS processor.

Other features of the Broadcom BCM5354 Wi-Fi router include built-in support for USB 2.0, multi-BSSID (which allows users to create and access multiple networks through a single access point) and new range-enhancement technology. The range enhancement borrows technologies that were developed for Broadcom's MIMO chipsets and claims 50% range improvement over competing products.

The BCM5354 is now in mass production and is expected to ship in customer designs in the fourth quarter of 2006. The BCM95354GR advanced reference design based on the BCM5354 is also available. Prices are available upon request.
