Axis Communications today announced the company’s first two-megapixel network camera designed for professional security and surveillance applications. The AXIS 223M Network Camera provides high image detail in day or night lighting conditions.

Axis said the camera delivers four times better resolution than the best analog cameras. It can also be configured to provide lower resolution and frame rate for flexibility of image quality and bandwidth usage.

Key features include a 2.0 MP progressive scan CCD sensor, high quality megapixel varifocal lens, advanced image processing and automatically removable infrared cut filter to generate color video in high and low light conditions, and IR-sensitive, black and white video at night.

Other features include IEEE 802.3af PoE support, video motion and audio detection, two-way audio support, HTTPS and 802.1x for enhanced security and IPv6 support.

The camera will be available in January 2007 for $1,399 MSRP.
