The LinkStation Live and TeraStation Live are designed to allow consumers to easily store and distribute multimedia files such as music, media back-ups, family videos and photos around the home.

Both products are based on embedded Mediabolic Media Server software which aggregates personal media so that it can be accessed by a variety of player products, such as network TVs, set-top boxes, and digital media adapters.

The duo also include an iTunes server and are designed to DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) guidelines.

The hardware platform includes a Marvell Media Vault processor (LinkStation Live - 400MHz CPU, TeraStation Live - 500MHz CPU), DDR-II RAM, SATA drives for transfer rates of "up to 35MB/s" and gigabit Ethernet with Jumbo Frame support. Dual USB 2.0 ports can accommodate external USB hard drives for expanded networked storage or as backup targets.

The products also include a print server and Memeo AutoBackup multi-language backup software for Windows.

The LinkStation Live is available in capacities of 250GB (HS-DH250GL), 320GB (HS-DH320GL), 500GB (HS-DH500GL) and 750GB (HS-DH750GL).

The TeraStation Live includes five operational modes: RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 10, RAID 5, and JBOD (Spanning) and is available in capacities of 1TB (HS-DH1.0TGL/R5) and 2TB (HS-DH2.0TGL/R5).

The LinkStation Live will be available at the end of this month at estimated street prices of $229 (250 GB), $249 (320 GB), $349 (500 GB) and $749 (750GB).

The TeraStation Live will be available at the end of February at estimated street prices of $699 for 1 TB and $1299 for 2 TB.

Buffalo has also updated its TeraStation Pro, adding a "II" to its moniker. The Pro II is essentially the same as the TeraStation Live, but without the media servers and including.a built-in UPS and disk quota management.

The TeraStation Pro II will be available at the end of this month at estimated street prices of $999 for the 1TB (TS-H1.0TGL/R5) and $1699 for the 2TB (TS-H2.0TGL/R5).
