D-Link today announced that it will soon add wireless management features to its DES-1228P 24-Port 10/100 smart switch with PoE. The new features will support the upcoming DWL-3140AP, a small, "smoke detector-sized" access point. Centralized AP management features will include WEP, WPA and WPA2 security, configuration templates, quick discovery of APs, AP mapping utility, full-time AP status controls, AP load balancing and the ability to maintain all AP traffic history and generate reports with statistical diagrams. In addition to the wireless features, the DES-1228P supports smart wired switch functions including 802.1x authentication, 802.1q VLANs, 802.1p QoS, denial of service (DoS) prevention, 802.1d Spanning Tree, port trunking and more. The switch has 15.4 watts of PoE power per port to support devices such as phones, Internet cameras and access points. The DES-1228P is available now for $529.99 MSRP. The DWL-3140AP and firmware to enable centralized AP management for the DES-1228P will be available by the end of the Q2, 2007. The wireless upgrade for existing wired-only DES-1228P switch owners will be free. Comments (0)
