HELIOS Software today released a free download of a modified Yellow Dog Linux (YDL) distribution, optimized to use Sony's Playstation 3 as a test-drive server. The distro is offered under basic agreement with Terra Soft Solutions, the developer of YDL. HELIOS prepared the distro primarily to provide a test-drive platform for its file, print, PDF and image server software. The HELIOS simplified YDL distribution comes on a CD disk image that installs in less than 6 minutes, and provides a high performance Linux server OS complete with DHCP network settings, support for Java 1.5 and AppleTalk enhanced kernel. Terra Soft's Yellow Dog Linux v5.0 is binary compatible with its release for the former Apple PowerPC product line and concurrent support for the Mercury Cell products and IBM Cell and pSeries servers. The download and installation instructions are available here. Tags: Helios, Terra Soft, YDL, |
