Cisco yesterday announced an Aironet series access point with dual 802.11n Draft 2.0 radios.

The modular Cisco Aironet 1250 Series access point has a modular design with 2.4-GHz and 5-GHz 802.11n draft 2.0 standard radio modules. Cisco says that the AP can deliver "total data rates of up to 600 Mbps". The 1250 is an addition to Cisco's Unified Wireless Network product line and can be deployed in both standalone and "unified" (lightweight AP) modes.

Cisco 1250 802.11n APHardware features include a gigabit Ethernet LAN port, 32 MB of flash memory and 64 MB of DRAM. Power options include DC input and Power over Ethernet. The AP is 802.3af compliant with a single radio only. Dual-radio configurations require 16.5 W, which is above the 802.3af limit. Antenna options include ceiling-mount, fixed straight and articulating omni-directional dipoles for both 2.4 and 5 GHz.

Security features include support for 802.11i, Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA), WPA2, and numerous Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) types. These certifications support IEEE 802.1X for user-based authentication, Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (TKIP) for WPA encryption, and Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) for WPA2 encryption.

The product is scheduled to be available for ordering next month. Pricing was not announced.
