During my routine check of the Wi-Fi Alliance 802.11n Certified product list, I found that the mythical D-Link DIR-855 Dual-Band Draft 11n router received its 802.11n Draft 2.0 certification back on October 3. Shame on me for not catching this before now. But don't get too excited, because nothing for the DIR-855 has shown up in the FCC database yet, which is required before a product can ship in the U.S. The good news is that D-Link is shipping a dual-band router. The single-radio DGL-4500 [related story] was not only announced just two weeks ago, but is even in stores. Go figure! Still no sign of companion dual-band Draft 11n adapters, though, in any format. As a matter of fact, the only available dual-band notebook adapters using Atheros XSPAN chipsets are in Japan. Wonder if Atheros has some sort of problem with its client-side dual-band draft 11n chipset? 6/12/2008 Update! Read the full DIR-855 review. Comments (2)
