A post on the Windows Home Server Team Blog yesterday provided a heads-up for an update to the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article that fleshes out the data corruption problem that has been affecting some users since late last year.

The blog post explains that the problem is the Windows Home Server team's "top priority" and that they now "understand the issue really well". But only a part of the fix has been coded, with internal testing estimated to take "at least several more weeks". Beta versions of the fix are planned "over the next few months" with a final release "estimated" for June 2008.

According to the MS KB article, the corruption affects only WHS machines with more than one hard drive. It occurs only when "certain programs" (including Intuit QuickBooks and Outlook 2007) edit or transfer files. The corruption is said to not occur with Windows Home Server Computer Backup and Restore capabilities, Health Monitoring, and Remote Access functionality.
