New to the Charts: Iomega StorCenter Pro 200rL

The 200rL Series is Iomega's first attempt at adding a Linux-based (Debian) offering to its Windows Storage Server-based Small / Medium Business NAS product line. The 200rL comes in 1, 2 and 3 TB configurations in a 1U rack-mount format. We tested the 3 TB version.

The feature set is surprisingly bare-bones, although there is a USB printer server. RAID 0, 0+1, 5 and JBOD modes are supported with hot-swappable drives.

Performance, however, is excellent, in part due to the Intel Celeron D 352 @ 3.2GHz CPU and 512 MB of DDR2 memory. Our iozone-based tests had the 200rL topping the 1000 Mbps LAN, RAID 5 charts with slightly over 38 MBytes/s write throughput and in the top 5 for all other modes tested. Since only 9K jumbo frames are supported and our jumbo frame charts use 4K, we didn't run jumbo frame tests.
