One area where I think HomePNA should really succeed in is VoIP devices such as IP telephone handsets, VoIP ATAs and similar devices. Recently, there have been a few "n-Box" residential Internet gateway devices being sold by European IT vendors and European ISPs which offer basic PBX functionality. A good example of such a device is the AVM Fritzbox Fon series of residential Internet gateways. Typically they have the ADSL2-based WAN socket and an FXO connection to the PSTN phone line which doesn't just work as an emergency fallback. There will also be support for two VoIP services and the residential gateway will have one or two FXS sockets for regular telephones.

If the residential Internet gateway device and any IP-based telephony devices are equipped with HomePNA, you could deploy an IP-based PBX system using existing telephone wiring for just the cost of the hardware, which could realistically be in the range of most small organizations. It also avoids the need to pull Ethernet wire for VoIP devices.
