RF Digital, a manufacturer of specialized wireless subsystems, today said it has developed the first Wi-Fi module that it claims can provide "up to a decade" of battery life operating on a single AA battery. The RFD21715 is a 1" x 1" module that uses GainSpan's GS1010 802.11 SoC. The GS1010 is a single-chip 802.11b/g radio with integrated ARM7 microcontroller, flash and SRAM. The module is aimed primarily at sensor applications such as building automation, utilities metering, telemetry and transportation, and supply chain management. The RFD21715 will be available during the second half of 2008. Pricing was not announced. Comments (1)
