Untangle announces free app to turn XP machine into network security gateway Print E-mail

Open Source network security company Untangle today announced a free Windows XP application that can provide gateway security services for all computers on a LAN.

Untangle's free Re-Router Technology runs transparently in the background on any Windows XP system and provides spam, spyware and adware blocking and anti-virus services for up to 25 networked computers.

Re-Router Technology uses virtualization and layer 2 protocols to dynamically reconfigure a network so that all in and outbound traffic flows through the Untangle “server” before reaching its intended destination. No recabling is required and the original network configuration is restored if the Re-Router Technology system is shut down.

The free download is available now and requires Windows XP Home or Professional and Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 on the machine where it is installed.
