Netgear and Ubiquisys Team to Develop Femtocell Home Gateway
Netgear and Ubiquisys Ltd., a developer of intelligent 3G femtocell access points for the residential market, today announced their collaboration to deliver a comprehensive residential gateway with integrated DSL modem, Wi-Fi, VoIP and 3G femtocell technology.
The Ubiquisys ZoneGate femtocell is a plug-and-play 3G access point that uses a mobile subscriber's DSL connection to transport voice and data calls to the core network using a range of standards-based interfaces. This embedded capability is aimed at providing mobile operators with the means to interact with home networks via 3G broadband networks.
It is anticipated that the NETGEAR gateway integrating Ubiquisys' femtocell technology will be available for operator testing by Q4 2007, with commercial availability slated for early 2008.

ZyXEL today added an SSL gateway and mobile broadband router to its ZyWALL security product line.
The ZyWALL SSL-10 is an integrated SSL-VPN and Firewall appliance supporting 10 sessions in its base configuration and upgradeable to 25 sessions. Users have access to shared network resources through a single web page with user rights defined by login ID.
The product provides a customizable web portal that users can access through a standard Web browser to easily and securely access e-mail, applications, web servers and other resources on the remote network.

Verizon Wireless and Sierra Wireless today announced that the Sierra Wireless AirCard 595 PC card for EVDO Revision A networks is now available for use with Verizon Wireless' BroadbandAccess service. This is the first EVDO Revision A-compatible PC card to launch on the Verizon Wireless network.

HP said its Compaq nc6400 Notebook PC with integrated Cingular Wireless UMTS/HSDPA-based technology is the first notebook with a tri-band UMTS modem supporting data rates of up to 3.6 Mbps. It can access mobile broadband service in the United States via Cingular Wireless BroadbandConnect or high-speed EDGE services and in more than 115 countries where UMTS or GPRS/EDGE networks are available.

Sprint made a flurry of announcements today saying it has upgraded its Power Vision Network to EV-DO Revision A technology in Boston, Hartford, Buffalo, Rochester and Pittsburgh.
The company said that Power Vision users in upgraded markets should experience "significantly faster average upload speeds of 300-400 kbps (compared with 50-70 kbps of current EV-DO networks)". Sprint also said average download speeds should also increase to "450–800 kbps from 400-700 kbps".
