D-Link announces MoCA Coax Ethernet Networking kit

D-Link today announced a MoCA-based Coax Ethernet Adapter and kit.

The DXN-221 Coax Ethernet Adapter Kit allows the use of existing television coaxial cable to extend an Ethernet connection without the need to install CAT 5/6 cable. The adapters are Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA) certified and will coexist with cable television signals on the same coax.

D-Link bringing MoCA bridge to retail soon

MoCA chipset manufacturer Entropic today announced that D-Link will have a retail product by the end of Q1.

The D-Link DXN-220 MoCA MediaBridge is an Ethernet to coax MoCA-compliant bridge using Entropic's EN2210 chipset. The announcement didn't quote any bandwidth numbers, but MoCA 1.1 has a PHY (raw) data rate of 270 Mbps. So expect a maximum application (useful) data rate of around half that.

No pricing was announced.

D-Link yesterday announced its membership in the Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA), an open, industry-driven initiative promoting distribution of digital video, data and entertainment through existing coaxial cable in the home.

D-Link currently has no products with MoCA-compliant features.
