Vonage calls Verizon's patent suit "frivolous"

Vonage is saying that Verizon's patent lawsuit against the VoIP-telephony giant is "frivolous". The Holmdel, New Jersey-based company vowed to defend itself and added that the lawsuit will not affect operations, no matter what happens.

Apparently Vonage has a large legal warchest and its CEO, Mike Snyder, said that the suit will not hurt the company financially and adds, "Our financial reserves would allow us to continue normal operations regardless of the outcome. In addition, we are confident that regardless of how this litigation is ultimately decided, Vonage's customers will see no change whatsoever to any aspect of their phone service."

Verizon announces EVDO Rev A launch and USB modem

Verizon Wireless today announced it is launching its next-generation high-speed wireless broadband network in cities throughout the country.

Based on CDMA 1x Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) Revision A (Rev. A) technology, customers in the areas of upgraded coverage can expect "average download speeds of 450-800 Kbps and average upload speeds of 300-400 Kbps".

Verizon Wireless and Sierra Wireless today announced that the Sierra Wireless AirCard 595 PC card for EVDO Revision A networks is now available for use with Verizon Wireless' BroadbandAccess service. This is the first EVDO Revision A-compatible PC card to launch on the Verizon Wireless network.
