The DroboElite is an iSCSI SAN storage appliance that features a new hardware

architecture with an enhanced processing engine and dual
Gigabit Ethernet iSCSI interfaces for a "150 percent" performance improvement over previous Drobo models. The new model can support up to 255 virtual storage volumes created from eight 3.5" SATA drives (up to 2 TB drives currently supported).

Features include Drobo’s signature automated capacity expansion and one-click single or dual drive redundancy, multi-host and VMWare support.

Drobo S is a "professional-class" version of the four-bay attached-storage Drobo with five 3.5" SATA bays and eSATA, FireWire 800 and USB 2.0 connections and also with a 1.5X performance improvement.

Both new Drobos are available with DroboElite priced from $3,499 up to $5,899 for a full 16TB configuration and Drobo S starting at $799 and rising to $1,799 for a fully-loaded 10TB version. All prices are U.S. MSRP.
