ZyXEL Announces RAID 5 Personal Cloud NAS

ZyXEL logoZyXEL has announced a dual-core four-bay NAS.

The 4-bay NAS540 4-Bay Personal Cloud Storage is built around a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor with 1 GB of DDR3 RAM. Dual Gigabit Ethernet ports can be aggregated to support ZyXEL’s specified RAID 5 performance of up to 130 MB/sec read and 77 MB/sec write. Other hardware features include three USB 3.0 ports and SDXC card reader.

Four hot-swappable drive bays with screw-less drive mounting accept 2.5" or 3.5" SATA II hard or solid state drives configurable in JBOD, RAID 0/1/5/6/10 and RAID5+Hot Spare volumes.

ZyXEL zCloud 2.0 enables secure remote access to NAS540 files through Android or iOS mobile devices and Windows, MacOS and Linux desktops. Other software features include CIFS/SMB and NFS network file system support, UPnP / DLNA, iTunes, SqueezeCenter and photo media servers, FTP, WebDAV and print servers and MySQL / PHP web serving.

Flexible backup support includes one-touch USB copy, external drive and rsync and NAS-to-NAS and Google Drive, Dropbox, Memopal, ownCloud and NetDrive cloud service support.

The NAS540 has a $312.99 MSRP and ships later this month.
