Microsoft releases final version of Windows Defender

Microsoft released the final version of its proprietary antispyware application, Windows Defender. The security tool, which saw its last public beta release in February, is a free download for US customers running Windows and promises to protect PC owners from malicious spyware hacks entering their systems.

SonicWALL Firmware Version 2.1 for its SSL-VPN 2000 and 4000 appliances adds drag-and-drop functionality in the new Java version of the file shares applet. This new firmware version also provides LDAP authentication capabilities for multiple organizational units, and offers access control based on both existing Active Directory group and RADIUS group memberships.

Nmap getting SNORTed

Open source innovator and SNORT creator, Sourcefire, Inc., and Insecure.Org, the creator of the Nmap Security Scanner, today announced a licensing agreement for the parties to jointly develop open source vulnerability scanning technology based on the general purpose Nmap Scripting Engine (NSE) embedded within the Nmap network discovery tool.

Under the agreement, Insecure.Org will develop the engine while the Sourcefire Vulnerability Research Team (VRT) will develop and contribute plug-ins for discovering specific vulnerabilities.
