Yep, Postini Really Was Down

Updated 10/15/09 If you use Postini to handle your mail, you might be wondering where all your mail was today.

I have used Postini for almost a year for spam filtering and it has worked well for the most part. But in honor of our changeover to an updated version of SmallNetBuilder, Postini decided to take a day off today.

Computerworld confirmed that Google’s email management tools have been down for “some, but not all, Postini customers in the U.S.”, which apparently includes me. In fact, Postini has not been processing mail since around 9 AM ET. This is contrary to the error message displayed when I attempted to log in, which assured me that mail was coming through and only the administration interface was down.

But it looks like the trouble is over. The Postini admin interface just came back up. ‘Scuse me while I see if service really is back up!

Update @ 6PM EDT 10/13/2009 While the admin pages are available, mail still isn’t flowing yet.

Update 10/14/2009 Everything is back to normal.

Update 10/15/2009 Google has posted an incident report.

Misusing MIMO

As is too often the case, yet another networking term that initially had clear meaning has been grabbed by the marketeers and is being used to lure gullible buyers.

The SmallNetBuilder Forums are Open

The response to my previous post indicates that there is support for Forums. So...they're up!

No. We haven’t changed into NASNetBuilder

You would think from having had four networked storage articles in a row that we've morphed into something else. The truth is just that we've recently been swamped witih NASes and are just trying to keep up with the flow.
