HP and 3Com today announced that HP will purchase 3Com in a deal worth $2.7 B.

The acquisition expands HP’s Ethernet switch product line, adds routing solutions and should strengthen HP’s position in China via 3COM’s H3C products. H3C is a 3COM division that formerly was a joint venture with Huawei.

Also added to HP’s network product portfolio are 3COM’s TippingPoint network security products.

The deal is expected to close in the first half of calendar 2010.
