WD has announced lower-cost versions of its Arkeia backup appliance.
The WD Arkeia DA1300 and DA2300 backup appliances are aimed at small- and medium-sized businesses.
Housed in a compact desktop "cube", the DA1300’s hardware platform is based on a dual-core Intel Atom CPU with dual Gigabit Ethernet interfaces and four drive bays that come populated with either two or four 2 TB WD Red drives configured in RAID 1.
The DA2300 also adopts a cube format with an Intel Xeon CPU, dual Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports and sporting two or four 4 TB WD Se hard drives.
The appliances can handle file/folder backup for over 200 platforms including Windows, Linux, MacOS, AIX, HP-UX, Solaris, Novell and BSD. Arkeia v10.1 software also offers optional specialized agents for hot backups of important applications and databases.
WD DA1300 / DA2300 Arkeia
WD Arkeia uses patented Progressive Deduplication that reduces storage volume and delivers faster backups. This expands the effective capacity of the DA1300 from 2 to 10 TB or 4 to 20 TB and the DA2300’s capacity from 4 to 20 TB or 8 to 40 TB.
The WD Arkeia DA1300 will be available in late September and DA2300 will be available "later this fall". U.S. MSRP for the 4 TB DA1300 will be $3,490. Both appliances bundle one-year Bronze level support that includes a limited hardware warranty, software updates and technical support.
