Seagate Announces Four-bay RAID 5/10 NAS Family

The Seagate BlackArmor NAS 440 and 420 are four-bay NASes populated with four and two hot-swappable Seagate 2 TB drives, respectively. Multiple RAID 0/1/5/10 & JBOD volumes can be configured with optional file to volume-level encryption.

Hardware features include a 1.2 GHZ Marvell processor, 256 MB of RAM, dual 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports with failover support and four USB 2.0 ports for storage expansion, UPS sync and print serving.

Backup features include 10 licenses for BlackArmor Backup supporting automatic incremental and "bare-metal" backup for Windows clients. The NASes themselves support backup to and from USB drives and networked NAS to NAS.

Other features include iTunes and UPnP AV / DLNA media servers, HTTP and FTP download client, email alerts, user quotas, authentication via AD / NT domains, FTP serving and CIFS/SMB, and NFS network file systems.

The NAS 420 and 440 will be available this month at MSRP’s of $799.99 and $1,199.99. 6 and 8 TB versions will be available in May for $1,699.99 and $1,999.99.
