Synology logoSynology has announced two RAID 5 quad-core class NASes.

The DS1515 Disk Station is powered by a 1.4 GHz quad-core Annapurna Labs Alpine AL-314 ARM-based CPU backed by 2 GB of non-expandable DDR3 RAM.

Network connection is via four aggregatable Gigabit Ethernet ports. Two USB 3.0 and two eSATA ports support storage expansion and peripheral connection.

Five hot-swappable drive bays accept 2.5" and 3.5" SATA II / III solid state and hard drives configurable in multiple individual, JBOD, RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10 and Synology Hybrid RAID volumes that can be optionally encrypted using the processor’s hardware encryption engine and FPU. Synology specs encrypted performance at 296.54 MB/s reading and 150.04 MB/s writing with Link Aggregation enabled. SSD caching is also supported.

The 25 TB of raw internal storage (with 5 TB drives) can be expanded to a total 75 TB using two 5-bay DX513 eSATA-connected expansion units.
