NETGEAR Announces VDSL UTM Firewall

NETGEAR has announced a UTM firewall with integrated VDSL modem and WLAN.

The UTM9S is positioned between the entry-level UTM5 and UTM10 [reviewed] previous step-up model with 130 Mbps of firewall throughput, 50 Mbps "maximum VPN throughput" and 16,000 concurrent connections, according to NETGEAR.

Like other of its UTM-series siblings, the UTM9S’ supports both IPsec (10) and SSL (5) VPN tunnels.

UTM features include SPI+NAT firewall, AV and malware scanning of HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, SMTP, IMAP, POP3 traffic, web content and object filters, email content filters and anti-spam.

Hardware features include Gigabit Ethernet WAN (2) and switched LAN (4) ports. Unique to the UTM9S are two slots that supports optional network interfaces and are populated with a VDSL/ADSL2+ Modem Module (Annex A and B versions available) and 802.11a/b/g/n single-radio module.

The product can also integrate with NETGEAR ReadyNAS storage via an optional NAS UTM add-in for expanded log storage.

The UTM9S will be shipping soon, with prices starting at $535 that includes one year of web and email protection subscription services, 24/7 technical support and a lifetime limited warranty.
