Axis Intros Compact HD Dome Netcam

Axis has announced a palm-sized HD pan/tilt/zoom/IP camera.

The AXIS M50 PTZ Dome Network Cameras are 5.1” wide and 2.2” high, offer 360° surveillance (±180° pan, 90° tilt and 3x digital zoom) with 720p resolution in a package smaller than the average hand (see video).

All models have intelligent motion detection, built-in microphone and can be powered via DC adapter or 802.3af PoE.

The new PTZ dome series includes the AXIS M5013 that features SVGA 800×600 resolution and the AXIS M5014 with 720p resolution. Both can deliver multiple simultaneous, individually configurable H.264 and Motion JPEG video streams and are compatible with AXIS Camera Station video management software.

The M50 Series will be available to order in April at suggested retail prices of $499 for the AXIS M5013 and $599 for the AXIS M5014.

Linksys adds small-biz wireless network camera

Linksys today announced a network camera aimed at small business surveillance applications. The WVC2300 Wireless-G Business Internet Video Camera with Audio is a AC-powered " box-type camera" supporting Ethernet and 802.11g wireless network connectivity.

The WVC2300 has a maximum 640x480 (VGA) resolution and 30 FPS frame rate and dual codecs (MPEG-4 and MJPEG) that can be used simultaneously. The camera uses a progressive scan CCD sensor with low-light sensitivity for image capture in low light environments or "near dark" conditions. An IR Cut Filter is also provided, which, when used with a separate infra-red lamp, allows video capture in total darkness.
