D-Link logoD-Link has started to ship its Broadcom-based 4x4 router, first announced at CES 2015.

The DIR-885L/R AC3150 Ultra Wi-Fi Router supports link rates up to 2165 Mbps in 5 GHz and 1000 Mbps in 2.4 GHz when used with devices capable of supporting those rates. D-Link has chosen to round down the total 3165 Mbps to 3150, while other manufacturers are using AC3100 to designate this Wi-Fi class.

Features include a dual-core 1.4 GHz main processor, Gigabit WAN (1) and switched LAN (4) ports and USB 3.0 port for storage and printer sharing. D-Link says the new router also supports DD-WRT open source firmware and Broadcom's Smart Connect technology to automatically steer clients to the best band.

Like all other Broadcom 4x4-based routers to date, the DIR-885L/R is supposed to eventually support MU-MIMO, but is shipping without it enabled. However, the router's product page makes no mention of this. A footnote in the press release provides no time frame for MU-MIMO firmware, saying only "Firmware update required to support MU-MIMO".

The DIR-885L/R lists for $279.99 and is shipping now.
