The WHDI Consortium today announced that version 1.0 of the Wireless Home Digital Interface (WHDI) specification has been released.

WHDI is a standard for distributing 1080p/60Hz HD with Deep Color video content at a distance of 100 feet and through walls. It is based on technology developed by Herzlia, Israel based AMIMON.

WHDI uses an uncompressed wireless link that supports the delivery of "equivalent" video data rates of up to 3 Gbps in a 40 MHz channel in the 5 GHz unlicensed band, conforming to worldwide 5 GHz spectrum regulations. WHDI incorporates HDCP revision 2.0 for content protection.

WHDI competes with WiGig and WirelessHD, not to mention the IEEE 802.11ad Task Group, which are all working on HD wireless distribution technology using the higher bandwidth, but shorter range 60 GHz band.

WHDI Consortium members are: AMIMON, Hitachi, LG Electronics, Motorola, Samsung Electronics, Sharp and Sony. WHDI LLC is a wholly owned subsidiary of AMIMON Inc., and is charged with licensing and promoting the WHDI standard.
