Thecus yesterday announced its N7700 "enterprise class" seven-bay NAS that includes iSCSI target capability.
The NAS is based on a 1.86GHz Intel Celeron M processor with 1 GB of DDR memory. There are two PCI-e gigabit Ethernet LAN interfaces supporting 802.3ad link aggregation, load balancing and fail over capability. In addition to acting as an iSCSI target, up to five N7700s set as iSCSI targets can be controlled by a master unit acting as an iSCSI initiator. The N7700's iSCSI initiator also supports Thecus' N5200 and 1U4500 NASes as iSCSI targets. Multiple RAID volumes are supported using RAID 0, 1, 5,6,10, and JBOD modes. Volumes can use the ext3 or ZFS file systems and support online RAID expansion and RAID level migration. ZFS volumes also support version control via volume snapshots. File access is supported via HTTP and FTP in addition to SMB/CIFS, AFP and NFS. Data backup is supported to external local devices or over the network using Thecus' proprietary "Nsync" remote replication. Bundled licenses for FarStone's Drive Clone PRO 5.0 handle scheduled client backup and "bare metal" recovery. Other features include a AD / NT domain support, download client for HTTP/FTP and BitTorrent files, USB print server and iTunes, photo web and UPnP AV media servers. The N7700 will be available by the end of this month at an MSRP of $1099.
