NETGEAR logoNETGEAR has announced extensions of its network camera and ReadyNAS families.

The VMC3040 Arlo Q 1080p HD Security Camera with Audio is a mains-powered version of NETGEAR’s popular wire-free Arlo network camera.

Since it doesn’t rely on batteries, Arlo Q provides 24 / 7 recording and can have motion detection zones set up. Other key differences from the original Arlo include two-way audio, wider field of view and 1080p HD image quality.

Arlo Q’s N600 class radio also connects to any Wi-Fi network and doesn’t require the base station the original Arlo requires. The new netcam comes with 7 days of free storage for motion-triggered clips.

Continuous recording plans for Arlo Q are $9.99 / month for a single camera for 14 days or $29.99 / month for 30 days of storage. Each additional camera is 50% off the single camera price.

ArloQ will be shipping next month for $219.99 MSRP.

In an unrelated announcement, NETGEAR’s ReadyNAS group rolled out the ReadyNAS 3138 today. It’s a four-bay, 1U rackmount NAS powered by a 2.4 GHz quad-core Intel Atom C2558 processor with 4 GB of ECC RAM. Port complement includes four aggregateable Gigabit Ethernet, two USB 3.0, one USB 2.0 and two eSATA. There is no built-in or optional 10GbE capability.

The new NAS runs NETGEAR’s ReadyNAS OS 6.4.1 operating system based on the BTRFS filesystem that provides five levels of data protection, plus ReadyCLOUD personal cloud and a wide range of other business NAS features.

The ReadyNAS 3138 is available diskless (RN3138) or populated with four 2TB, 3TB, or 4TB drives (RN31842E, RN31843E, RN31844E). The diskless edition of RN3138 is available now at $1,699 MSRP.
