The AR8216 six-port configuration consists of five 10/100 Ethernet PHY ports,

one MII port for CPU connectivity and six independent Media Access Controllers (MACs). The chip comes in a 10mm x 10mm, 80-pin, low-profile quad flat package that Atheros says is one-third the size of competing solutions.

Features include non-blocking switching, ingress policing and egress rate limiting, IPv4 IGMP and IPv6 MLD snooping and VLAN support.
