Thecus Releases V5 Firmware

Thecus has announced a new version of its NAS OS.

The company said its new V5 firmware is a major step forward and provides a 50% performance improvement (NetBench).

New features include the Piczza photo server, remote file and media access via iPhone with ThecusShare, EXT4 volume and 3 TB drive support.

The V5 GUI also features improved localization, improved menu organization and built-in help.

V5 comes installed on all new XXX series NASes and is available as a free download for N4200, N4200PRO, N4200Eco, N7700PRO, N7700PLUS, N8800PRO, and N8800PLUS models. Thecus said upgrades for other models are in the works.

Thecus updates N5200 NAS

Thecus today announced an updated version of its high-performance five-bay RAID NAS.

The N5200PRO doubles the processor speed and memory of its predecessor, using a 1.5 GHz Intel Celeron M processor and 512MB of DDR memory.

The N5200PRO features up to 5TB of capacity with five 3.5" SATA drive bays and supports multiple RAID levels, allowing multiple RAID volumes on a single system. The N5200PRO also supports iSCSI initiators, enabling users to access the N5200PRO as an iSCSI target device over the Internet or LAN.
