Canon has launched a new cloud portal, enabling the ability to print and scan using Google Docs or SharePoint Online.

Canon’s imageRunner Advance line is Canon’s latest iteration of their extremely popular imageRunner line of SMB printers and copiers. The printers and copiers themselves are network-aware already, enabling network scanning to local desktop PCs.

The new Cloud Portal makes it possible for a mobile workforce to print documents remotely, or for a people in the same building to retrieve documents from the cloud at the printer itself. This is accomplished with an addon that is installed in the printers themselves, and subsequent configuration in the Cloud Portal, hosted by Canon. Once configured, Google Docs for Business and Microsoft Sharepoint Online are available as targets for scanned documents. Certain document types can also be selected and printed directly from the device’s MFP panel then.

Cloud Portal capability is enabled by the addition of a Direct Print kit or PS Printer Kit, both of which are available through Canon’s dealer network. You can read the full press release on Canon’s website.
