ZyXEL says it will soon ship Gigabit switches that automatically prioritize media streams.

The Aerobeam AVS105 and AVS108 are aimed at home entertainment center connectivity and automatically prioritize multimedia streams.

The new switches operate in real time, detecting bandwidth and latency-sensitive traffic and prioritizing it over non time-sensitive traffic such as web browsing, email and file transfers.

The Aerobeam AV Switches are optimized out of the box for Netflix, Hulu, YouTube and other media services as well as general traffic using RTSP/RTP and SIP/SDP protocols.

The new switches will ship in March. ZyXEL says pricing will be announced then and be "competitive to standard GbE switches that don’t have intelligent prioritization".
