QNAP has announced two high-end Intel multicore-based 12-bay 2U rackmount NASes.

The TS-EC1279U-RP and TS-1279U-RP are basically twelve bay versions of the eight bay TS-EC879U-RP and TS-879U-RP announced last week.

The TS-EC1279U-RP is based on a 3.1 GHz quad-core Intel Xeon E3-1225 Processor with 4 GB of DDR3 ECC RAM. Other hardware features include redundant power supplies, one PCIe expansion slot and four Gigabit Ethernet ports.

The TS-1279U-RP uses the same physical chassis, but has a 3.3 GHz dual-core Intel Core i3-2120 Processor and 2 GB of DDR3 RAM. It also features a redundant power supply with two expansion slots, but has only two Gigabit Ethernet ports.

Both models are backed with 3 year warranty, have two eSATA, two USB 3.0 and four USB 2.0 ports and support optional 10GbE networking. QNAP says the new NASes can achieve over 1,000 MB/sec and 100,000 IOPS over 10GbE.

Both versions run QNAP’s 3.5 OS that supports multiple RAID 0, 1, 10, 5, 6, 5+ hot spare, 6+ hot spare, 10+ hot spare, single disk and JBOD volumes with global hot spare. Other features include iSCSI target and initiator, VMware, Citrix and Hyper-V support, Windows Active Directory and LDAP support and backup to local USB and eSATA drives, networked rsync servers and Amazon S3 and ElephantDrive cloud services.

The TS-EC1279U-RP, and TS-1279U-RP are shipping now. Street pricing for the EC version is around $4700 and $3650 for the TS-1279U-RP.
