Seagate GoFlex Home Seagate today announced a second network sharing product for its new GoFlex hard drive line.

The GoFlex Home network storage system joins the GoFlex Net as an option for converting Seagate’s new SATA-based GoFlex drives from direct-attached to network-shared.

The GoFlex Home works with larger GoFlex Desk drives that use 3.5" SATA drives, while the GoFlex Net uses GoFlex "Ultra-portable" drives, based on 2.5" SATA drives.

Network connection is via a Gigabit Ethernet LAN port and a single USB 2.0 port supports expansion storage or USB printer sharing. A power saving (idle) mode automatically spins down the drive after 30-minutes of inactivity.

The GoFlex Home runs Axentra’s HipServ OS, which provides both local and remote-access file sharing as well as DLNA-based media streaming. Bundled GoFlex Home software includes three licenses of Memeo Instant Backup for PCs and Macs, and five seats for remote access (Seagate Share). Additional instant backup licenses or Seagate Share Pro seats may be purchased.

The optional Seagate Share Pro remote access service includes mobile device ( iPhone, iPad or BlackBerry) data access, Facebook and Flickr integration and RSS notifications.

The GoFlex Home includes a base and removable1TB or 2TB GoFlex Desk drive. The product will be available shortly at MSRPs of $159.99 for 1TB and $229.99 for 2TB.
