Synology has announced a Intel based quad-core NAS and beta of its upcoming OS.
The DS415+ DiskStation runs on a quad-core 2.4 GHz Intel Atom C2558 with 2 GB of DDRIII RAM. The four hot-swappable SATAIII bays accept 2.5" and 3.5" hard or solid-state drives configurable in multiple individual, JBOD, RAID 0, 1, 5, 6 and 10 volumes as well as Synology’s Hybrid RAID system.
Port complement is two aggregatable Gigabit LAN, one USB 2.0, two USB 3.0 and one eSATA. There is no 10 GbE option.
The Intel processor supports AES-NI hardware encryption for improved performance with encrypted volumes. Synology specs the DS415+ at 228.04 MB/sec read and 233.51 MB/sec write for an unencrypted RAID 5 volume from a Windows client with aggregated link.
The DS415+ is on its way to stores now, but pricing was not announced.

Synology also announced that the beta of its DSM 5.1 operating system is now available for general download. Among the improvements are:
- Cloud Station now supports encrypted sync, Windows ACL, file versioning and OneDrive, Box and hubiC cloud storage providers
- New proxy server
- FTP and WebDAV connections for File Station
- IPv6 support for File Station
- Improved SSD caching and interface
- Schedulable LUN snapshots and improved LUN backup performance
