Where the original My Book World focused on promoting access from anywhere via WD’s bundled Mionet service, the new version’s focus is on "centralizing and backing up data on all the computers in your home".

The new version comes in 1 and 2 TB capacities using WD Green series drives and is bundled with automatic backup software for both Windows XP / Vista and Mac OS X Tiger or Leopard operating systems.

Other features include a UPnP / DLNA 1.5 media server compatible with Xbox 360 and PS3, iTunes server, 10/100/1000 Ethernet port, one USB 2.0 port for capacity expansion and front panel capacity gauge. WD’s Mionet remote access service is still also bundled.

The new My Book World Edition 1 TB version is available now ($229.99 MSRP) and the 2 TB version will ship "later this month" ($449.99 MSRP).
