The companies have formed the Wi-Fi over Coax Alliance or WoCA to promote the use of Wi-Fi technology distributed over home coaxial cable. This new ground-breaking approach once and for all solves the problems that have made wireless LAN products the most-often returned consumer networking product.

With WoCA, consumers will no longer have to compete with neighbors for channel space, worry about signal loss due to walls and other obstructions or be concerned about unauthorized use of their networks. Instead, wireless signals will be conducted through a safe, secure and high-quality, high-speed signal environment to arrive strong and intact wherever there is a coax outlet.

"We have been wrestling with complaints for years that Wi-Fi technology promises long, but delivers short in terms of speed and range," said Atheros CEO Dr. Craig Borat. "Then, one day, one of our engineers had an 'Aha!' moment and we quickly jumped on it. MoCA will be the killer technology that will really capture consumers' attention."

"When we got the call from Atheros, we were really surprised," said Entropic's CTO, Itzhak Guarantee PhD. "Our team had been experimenting with a similar approach. Given the success that we've had with MoCA, we think WoCA is a natural marriage of two great technologies."

WoCA has started to recruit additional members to the Alliance and plans a technology demonstration before year-end.
