Dell has announced its intent to acquire SonicWALL

SonicWALL. provides intelligent network security and data protection solutions, including Unified Threat Management technology that is likely to be a prime reason for the acquisition.

The press release said that for now, SonicWALL customers will see little change from the deal.

SonicWALL will become Dell’s home for security appliances, incorporating Dell security products already in place such as Dell’s SecureWorks security services and Dell KACE vulnerability and patch management.

SonicWALL was founded in 1991 with headquarters in San Jose, CA.

The transaction was approved by the board of directors of each company and is expected to close in the second quarter of Dell’s FY13.
