Ruckus Wireless logoRuckus Wireless announced a controller-less architecture for two of its ZoneFlex access points.

Ruckus Unleashed is immediately available on ZoneFlex R500 Unleashed and ZoneFlex R600 Unleashed access points.

Unleashed access points are standard R500 and R600 APs, but with built-in controller capabilities similar to Ruckus’ ZoneDirector controller software. Controller features include user access controls, guest networking functions, advanced Wi-Fi security and traffic management.

Unlike some competitive products, Unleashed APs continue to support Wi-Fi functions when acting as controllers.

Unleashed access points can manage up to 25 access points as part of a single-site network. Ruckus says each access point can serve up to 512 simultaneously connected devices. Multi-site networks require moving to Ruckus’ controller.

The ZoneFlex R500 Unleashed and ZoneFlex R600 Unleashed are priced at $645 and $795 respectively, same as the standard R500 and R600.
