Xirrus adds draft 11n upgrade guarantee, for a price

Payment options offered are 30% of the suggested list price of each Wi-Fi Array at time of purchase or 45% of the suggested list price of each Wi-Fi Array payable in 3 annual payments (15% per year). An "Enhanced Care" option must also be purchased and kept in place until the upgrade is performed. Existing Array customers have 180 days to buy into the Guarantee program.

Intel announces draft 11n chipset

Intel today officially introduced its draft 802.11n chipset. The company described its Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N network connection, as "an upgrade to the wireless component found inside Intel Centrino Duo mobile technology and other Intel-based laptops".

The release contained no hard specs and was even vague on whether the product has dual-band capability (it does). It was noted, however, that the new chipset offers "up to five times the performance and twice the wireless range" and would provide "up to an extra hour of notebook battery life" when compared to existing Draft-N products.

Security Round-Up: Dell Updates Broadcom Drivers, NetGear Exploit Released

Dell has released a 52 MB patch for its affected drivers: The company lists a wide array of adapters including Dell Wireless 1350, 1370, 1390, 1450, and 1500, and the TrueMobile 1300 and 1400 series of mini-PCI and PC Cards. That's one huge download to replace what's apparently not a ton of code. But it must include all the associated software that runs the system, too, as well as every patch for every device.
