D-Link is in the process of pulling back a small number of its long-awaited DIR-855 dual-band draft 802.11n routers to fix an assembly error.

D-Link Director of Marketing Dan Kelly responded quickly to our query about a posting on the BroadbandReports.com D-Link forum, with the following statement:

"We have discovered a factory assembly error in which it was discovered that some of the cables connecting the antennas were connected incorrectly. The routers function normally but performance is a bit below par for certain tests, and not up to D-Link standards for quality. Simply by correctly connecting the antennas performance is returned to normal.

This effects a very limited number of DIR-855s (58 units) which were released to distribution beginning Jan. 28th.

Once the assembly error was discovered, all shipments were promptly halted from distribution to e-tail accounts and we’re now bringing back those in distribution due to the less than acceptable wireless performance caused by a factory assembly error. Very few of these products made it from distribution to e-tail accounts, but some did as in the case of the one listed on broadband reports.

All remaining units will be reworked before being delivered to our warehouse or shipped to distribution locations. We will also be replacing or fixing any units that did make it out to end-user customers as quickly as possible."
