As previously reported, the final issues holding up the standard were resolved in the Task Group’s meeting in Montreal in May. Since then, Draft 11 of the standard has been wending its way through the balloting process. The last balloting concluded on July 3 with 91% approval.
The revised timeline calls for 802.11n to be presented at IEEE Standards Board meeting on September 11. Although the Board could reject the standard, approval is anticipated.
Qualcomm today announced that it will acquire for cash WLAN MIMO innovator Airgo Networks and the majority of RF Micro Devices' (RFMD's) Bluetooth assets. The announcement said the acquisitions are being made to "enhance Qualcomm's ability to deliver industry-leading, complete semiconductor solutions that will enable its device manufacturing partners to more quickly and easily offer a wide range of compelling wireless devices".
NETGEAR is charging ASUS with shipping at least two wireless routers that are not FCC compliant.
Buffalo has added a year to the warranty on all its wireless products and switches.
