Setting up a home security camera can be a daunting task, even for Wi-Fi connected cameras. But move that camera outside and even experienced network builders look for any help they can get.

Edimax’ IC-9110W HD Wi-Fi Mini Outdoor Network Camera just might provide that help. Its unique architecture moves the Wi-Fi portion of the camera into a compact indoor unit. This puts it in a temperature-controlled environment, provides easy access to power and improves Wi-Fi signal strength. There’s even a Power over Ethernet (PoE) injector included, in case there isn’t a power outlet near where you want the camera.

The outdoor portion of the camera is housed in a solid metal IP66-rated waterproof case, with solid-metal protection for the single cable connecting the outdoor and indoor units.

With hardware easily installed, you don’t want to wrestle with the software half of the job. So simply install the EdiView II app on your iOS or Android device. The app automatically connects to the IC-9100W’s wireless network and then scans for available Wi-Fi networks. Just select the network you want the camera connected to, enter the network password and setup is complete.

With the camera connected, it’s time to set up motion detection. Up to three motion regions can be set, motion sensivity can be tweaked to reduce false alerts and motion detection periods can also be scheduled.

When motion detection is triggered, the IC-9110W starts to record video clips to the indoor unit’s microSD card or network share, sends push notifications to your mobile devices or sends email with 10 second video clips.
