Avaya has launched Web.Alive, a new online collaboration platform that aims to bring an immersive experience to the web.
Avaya’s web.alive is a very interesting product coming from a company generally associated with telephones. Web.alive combines video conferencing, audio conferencing, desktop sharing, and rich media presentations with… SecondLife. There’s really no other way to describe it.
In web.alive, new users create avatars, which distinctly remind us of Nintendo Miis. Once you’ve logged in via your web browser (addon installation required), you are then free to walk about your 3D virtual office. You can choose to interact with other users by just “walking up” and talking to them. PC Gamers will be immediately familiar with the W-A-S-D + Mouse control scheme.
Avaya utilizes a number of technologies like 3D positional audio to make the experience more realistic. Avaya claims this will revolutionize collaboration between people who are normally not able to meet in person.
Pricing starts at $49.00/Month for a hosted version which allows yourself and 8 other people to collaborate together. Yearly pricing for a set number of users is available via quote. Avaya also plans to release this as software companies can host internally on private networks.
