Thecus has announced a low-cost version of its N2100 two-drive SATA NAS. The N299 is based on a StorLink SL3516 32-bit SoC Processor instead of the 600 MHz Intel 80219 Xscale processor used in the N2100. The product has two gigabit Ethernet ports and supports two internal SATA drives that can be configured in JBOD, RAID 0 or RAID 1. Additional external storage can be added via three USB 2.0 ports.

Features include iTunes, Photo and UPnP media servers as well as a download manager for scheduled, unattended BitTorrent, HTTP and FTP downloading.

Thecus did not provide pricing or availability.
