The new features include Surveillance Station, which can record the video of the up to two IP cameras directly to the NAS without using a PC. Live audio and video monitoring, playback, and camera configuration can all be carried out via a web browser.

The other major feature is the "QPKG platform", which enables the installation of open source software applications by simply uploading package files to the NAS. Among the available applications are the Joomla! content management system, phpMyAdmin for MySQL database management, SlimServer (with Squeeze Center 7) and optware IPKG.

Other features in the 2.1.0 firmware are SMTP with SSL/TLS, "no-ip" support for DDNS, TwonkyMedia v 4.4.5 server and Rsync.

The 2.1.0 firmware is available as a free download from QNAP’s download site.
